So, do good things come in small packages? The simple answer on this occasion is - yes! This new Tamron is a very good, practical lens. It's not cheap, but once purchased, could well spend most of its life where it should be - on the front of your camera. |

The Tamron's a very good, very versatile, super-zoom, though its focal range is a tad long for it to be a do-it-all kit lens replacement. |

VERDICT: this compact super-zoom has focal length to suit most subjects and, selling at just under £500, it's got a price tag to suit the lightest of pockets. However, when it comes to top-notch image quality, professional photographers might struggle to justify its inclusion in their kit bags. This is a great choice for amateur photographers looking for an all-in-one lens solution.
Great for amateurs in need of a do-it-all super-zoom solution for a bargain price

THE VERDICT For general photography and for cracking, sharp images, this lens fits the bill. I found the vibration reduction functioned incredibly well. If you're prone to wobbly hands syndrome, this optic could well increase your hit rate. With a firm grip, it's perfectly possible to take shake-free shots down to 1/20sec without tripod support. As with all superzooms, the wide end is prone to barrell distortion, so it's not the best choice for architecture. Nor is it great for action because shutter speeds are limited at 300mm due to the f/6.3 small aperture. |
